Your Voice Counts: Save The Delaware! {Video}

The Delaware is the longest undammed river east of the Mississippi, flowing freely for 330 miles as it travels from New York state, through Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Delaware’s 13,539 square mile watershed is only about four-tenths of one percent of the continental U.S. land area, but it supplies water to Continue reading

In the U.S., an additional 5 million tons of waste is generated during the holiday season (from Thanksgiving to New Years Day). 4 million tons of this is wrapping paper and shopping bags. Need I say more? Well I will.

* Food waste increases 25% — 28 billion pounds of edible food wasted (100 pounds per person)!

Yikes! Could Plastic Take Over Our Oceans?

Like This!

Or has it already?

Maybe not yet, but there may be more out there than we know. Check out this video about the thick plastic soup that exists in our oceans. In many locations that span miles and miles. Twice the size of Texas. Some possibly larger.

What can you do?

  • Reduce, reuse, RECYCLE! It’s your responsibility (please excuse the lecture, but come on)!
  • Buy items that are minimally packaged.
  • Eliminate bottled water from your vocabulary — in the US we toss out enough disposable water bottles to circle the equator every 2.9 days and this number is increasing. Only 15% or less is actually recycled! Worried about your tap water? Get it tested!
  • Say no to plastic retail bags. And paper is not the better option. Bring your own bag!
  • Sign the STOP Plastic Bags global petition.
  • Share this with everyone you know.

Do we really need paper receipts for everything? I just received a 7″ receipt for 2 items! And you can’t just say no to receipts–they print them out no matter what!

Stunning factoids*

Receipt paper demands in the US are 640,000 tons per year. Production of these receipts consumes:
