It’s a Ball!
Ferdinand’s Ball is an annual fundraiser created in honor of Ferdinand, the 1986 Kentucky Derby Winner sent to slaughter in Japan after making millions while racing and becoming horse of the year. I’m excited to be part of it, especially because it involves an elaborate red carpet gala (and the possibility of running into a celebrity or two). I don’t get out much these days, so should be a ball in more ways than one. More importantly, it will help raise awareness and funds so that legacies like Ferdinand can retire in peace and with dignity on a beautiful farm in Georgetown, Kentucky. This kick-off to Derby Weekend is a black-tie event and features a silent auction, a VIP patron dinner, and live entertainment. Yahoo!
The Charity
Funds raised benefit “Old Friends,” a 501c3 non-profit, 100% donation based farm that rescues and rehabilitates racehorses whose racing and breeding careers have come to an end. At Old Friends more than 20,000 visitors a year come face to face with these gentle legends and leave inspired by both their wins and by their often tragic and miraculous rescues after their careers have ended. Visit www.oldfriendsequine.org for more information.
Embrace History . Give Hope to Their Future.
Garlands of roses. Big Hats. Millionaire’s Row. From starting time to the finish line Ferdinand’s Ball is the Derby Weekend event to attend–the only gala where the focus is all on the stars of the show – the horses. Here’s to them and their glorious careers, because whether they win or lose they all deserve to live in peace when their races are over.
When?
Thursday April 29th 6:30-12 a.m.
6:30 pm Patron Dinner with live performance
8:00 pm Live Entertainment. Appetizers. Silent auction.
Location location location…
Ferdinand’s Ball will be held at the renowned Frazier Museum in Downtown Louisville. The museum is nestled in the heart of historical West Main Street, and more than 1,000 years of history can be found in the 100,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility.
After receiving valet parking, guests will walk the local and national media covered red carpet–very cool, especially since I don’t get out much!–and be escorted to an expansive, sweeping New York-style loft with exposed brick walls and dramatic lighting. Guests will also enjoy gourmet food and drinks under the stars with access to the Rooftop Garden, which hosts breathtaking views of Downtown Louisville.
There will be food. Good food.
The Ferdinand’s Ball Patron Dinner is presented by a surprise Celebrity Chef and features celebrity guests, a top musician, and gourmet cuisine.
